A Family Yard Sale That Grew Into a Movement for Good
It all started in 2006 with a simple idea: host a family yard sale and donate 100% of the proceeds to local, vetted nonprofits in the Washington, DC area. These grassroots fundraisers supported organizations doing vital work to strengthen our community.
As the years went on, our yard sale grew—thanks to generous donations from friends, neighbors, and the wider community. With more items came more impact, and soon the question arose from our children: “What if we had even more space? How much more could we raise?”
In 2018, inspired by this idea, we secured a 6,000 square foot space—and Goods for Good (G4G) was born.
Pivoting With Purpose
When COVID-19 hit in spring 2020, large in-person gatherings were no longer safe—so we pivoted.
Goods For Good’s (G4G) mission is to strengthen communities through collective acts of kindness. We provide critical care and goods to underserved and vulnerable neighbors in the Washington, D.C. area, partnering with local nonprofits and volunteers to amplify our impact.
Our community service opportunities are designed to meet the specific and often personalized needs of youth, families, and seniors experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, food insecurity, migration challenges, or domestic violence. Goods for Good mobilizes volunteers to provide essential items and hands-on support—consistently and at no cost to partner nonprofits or the people they serve.
Meeting the Moment
Today, Goods for Good partners with over 50 local nonprofits across the DMV region. We connect volunteers of all ages—students, families, neighbors—with meaningful service opportunities that support:
- Food insecurity
- Clothing insecurity
- Shelter and housing
- Education access
- Employment readiness
- Health and hygiene support
- Basic Essentials
Whether it’s delivering donations, organizing supply drives, or lending a hand where it’s needed most—our mission remains the same:
Strengthening communities through collective acts of kindness.
