Every week, we receive hundreds of pounds of clothing donations from generous neighbors and members of the community. At G4G HQ, volunteers sort and organize these donations before we distribute them to:
Migrants arriving from the U.S. border
More than 13,000 migrants have arrived in the Washington, DC area since 2022. Most arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The respite centers (run by SAMU in Rockville and DC) provide emergency shelter, food, case management, clothes, and transportation as they determine their next steps. G4G manages their Rockville clothing pantries.
Refugees (individuals and families)
G4G supports newly resettled refugees and asylum-seekers (from countries such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Syria) as they re-build their lives in the DMV by providing needed clothing items. Our partners, IROC (Immigrant, Refugee Outreach Center), Lutheran Social Services (LSSNCA), and other resettlement and refugee agencies, fill out our online order form on behalf of their clients, and then our volunteers fill those orders.
Neighborhood pop-ups
Once or twice a month, G4G volunteers load up four or five cars with clothing, toys, diapers, and other goods and “set up shop” at local apartment complexes where large numbers of low-income/refugee neighbors live. The community is invited to take what they need.
Other partner organizations
G4G offers all its clothing pantry services to its 43 partner nonprofits. Whether it be stocking their “clothing closets” with clothes for easy access for their clients, doing occasional pop ups at their locations in the community, or providing them with specifically requested items for distribution, G4G works to make sure our partner organizations can best meet the clothing needs of those they work with.
