June Project: Small Acts, BIG Impact
This month we’re all about small acts of kindness! Here’s what we have planned. Come to our Small Acts of Kindness Fair. What: A fair of goodness including stations of activities: Assembling toy bags for children in shelters, making cards for isolated and low-income seniors, creating bookmarks inserted into books for children involved in a literacy program, making toys for pets and pet parents who can’t afford them, and more! When: Saturday, June 21 from 10:30am-12:30pm. Where: Episcopal Center for Children main building, 5901 Utah Ave NW DC (in the pillared building on the corner next to G4G). For Whom: Adults, families, and children (must be ages 5 or older; ages 5-11 must come with a participating guardian). More info: We invite you to contribute by donating gently used clothing for individuals of all ages and sizes, as well as spare change (see below). Community service hours provided if desired. We are also looking for volunteers to help us run the fair (must be 18+). Join our 10 Small Acts of Kindness Challenge 1. Hold a bake sale, lemonade stand, or car wash to raise funds for a G4G project of your choice. 2. Buy a bouquet and give individual flowers to people/neighbors. 3. Donate books to a little library. 4. Write positive messages on sidewalks with chalk. 5. Make a handmade card for someone you love. 6. Make lunch/dinner with a friend for people living in a shelter. 7. Clean your closet and donate clothing and jewelry to G4G. 8. Donate old towels or blankets for homeless/rescued animals (G4G will collect for shelter). 9. Give a stranger a compliment. 10. A small act of kindness YOU create (let your imagination soar and make as many up as you wish!) Keep a record of your small acts of kindness by using our printable tracker and send us photos so we can showcase your efforts and inspire others to spread kindness. Donate your spare change You might be surprised to know that pennies are on their way out! So why not put that spare change to work for something good while you can? Here’s how it works: Gather any spare coins you have lying around and bring them to us (at our headquarters, 5830 Nebraska Ave NW, Mondays-Fridays, 9:30am-5:30pm). Then decide where they go! We’ve set up jars for different projects, and you get to choose which one(s) your donation supports. Whether it’s making diaper bags for low-income moms and their babies, buying new underwear and socks for neighbors in need, supporting homemade meals for those experiencing hunger, or supplying toiletries to refugee families, your coins will directly benefit the causes closest to your heart. |
Ongoing Projects
Create a Birthday Box for a child in a shelter. Through this project, you can provide a family living in a shelter with the items for a true moment of joy and celebration on their child’s birthday. Details including information about what goes in the Birthday Box, dates to sign up, and locations are on the Sign-Up (you can look before committing).

Cook with your heart. Feed residents at area shelters a homemade meal. Learn more about the options and dropping off or serving in person (you can look before committing). If you wish to cook but cannot drop off, sign up and then contact G4G for delivery support.
Help manage our clothing pantries and distribute clothing for migrants, refugees, and other neighbors in need. Sort and organize clothing donations at G4G and the migrant center, and/or help facilitate clothing “pop ups” in the community. Details for all opportunities are on our sign up.

G4G is now collecting spring/summer clothing for all ages and sizes. Please donate only high quality clothing items and items on our list. We especially need seasonal shoes, men and women’s medium sized clothing, and backpacks.
